March 8, 2024

In line with its first value, safety, and as a way to contribute to the rural communities of Quintero, AES Chile, together with the Municipality of Quintero and the Fire Department of the commune, inaugurated a water supply station to combat fires in Valle Alegre.

The supply station, located on the premises that AES Chile has in Valle Alegre, was delivered on loan for 10 years to the Fire Department and includes an area of 100 square meters and the delivery of 30 thousand liters of water, which are stored in a tank funded by the municipality of Quintero.

The ceremony was attended by the mayor of Quintero, Mauricio Carrasco, the manager of the AES Chile Centro Complex, Marcelo Morales, councilors Rolando Silva, Mario González, and José Varas, the Superintendent of the Quintero Fire Department, Daniel Torres, the president of the neighborhood association of Valle Alegre, Yolanda Fernández, the president of the APR of the locality, Jaqueline Cisternas, the president of the neighborhood association of Alto Pinares, Victor Bernal, and the president of the sports club of Valle Alegre, Pablo Bonasea.

Mayor Mauricio Carrasco thanked AES Chile for implementing the water supply point for firefighters and indicated that "this project provides security to a rural area of the commune and is more than a water connection, this allows saving a lot of time for firefighters, who will also have a comfortable space for refilling."

Meanwhile, the superintendent of the Quintero Fire Department, Daniel Torres, stated that "today ends a work that has been carried out collaboratively between AES Chile, the Municipality of Quintero, and Firefighters in order to contribute to the locality of Valle Alegre. From a tactical perspective, it generates the opportunity to articulate more efficiently the combat of a possible fire in the community. For us, it is very important to have water resources."

With the operation of the water supply station, firefighters will be able to fill up to six fire trucks at a time and will save more than 40 minutes in travel time – during non-summer periods – in case they have to refill their pumps.

The manager of the AES Chile Centro Complex, Marcelo Morales, stated that "this is a very important work that we managed to carry out with the support of the Municipality of Quintero and Firefighters. This transfer point has the capacity to store 30 thousand liters of water to support the work of firefighters in emergency situations in rural areas, water that we will replenish whenever needed. This contribution is in line with the company's first value, safety."

The president of the neighborhood association of Valle Alegre, Yolanda Fernández, said that "I am very grateful for the investment made in this project that benefits several rural localities. I hope it is only used as a preventive measure and that we do not have to use it."
