Since August 2018, María Paz is the Vice President of Legal Affairs and Corporate Secretary of the Board of AES Gener.

During the last 12 years, María Paz has been focused on the development, construction and operation of energy, natural resources and construction projects. She also participates in public-private working groups for self-regulation and as a panelist on matters related to energy and corporate governance.

Previously, Cerda was General Manager of MPX Chile Holding Ltda, where she worked as Legal Manager. María Paz also practiced as a lawyer at Carey y Cía., Bofill Mir & Alvarez Jana, and Baker & McKenzie. To date, she is member of the board of directors of subsidiaries of AES Corporation and of AES Gener, both in Chile and Brazil, and has been a member of the board of other public limited companies and non-profit organizations.

María Paz has been recognized among the leading lawyers in the energy sector in Chile and highlighted among the 100 women leaders in Chile.

Since 2017 to date, she has been a WoomUp mentor, dedicated to encouraging other women in both the public and private sectors to grow professionally.

Cerda is graduated from the Law School of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and with a Master in Law (LL.M.) from the London School of Economics and Political Science. She has 25 years of experience as a lawyer and executive of local and international companies in energy, corporate and commercial matters.
