AES Chile Statement

AES Chile regrets the pollution episode that the municipalities of Quintero and Puchuncaví have experienced in recent hours, and categorically disclaims its responsibility, as verified by the on-site inspection conducted by the Superintendency of the Environment (SMA).

The emission data of the Ventanas Complex have been online on the SMA website since 2017 and on the Ministry of Environment website since 2020. Any citizen can have access to this information. Furthermore, the operation of the units has always been distinguished for being consistent and free of fugitive emissions. At the time of the environmental emergency, half of the plant units were shut down.

“The interim measures requested by the SMA will be implemented immediately to reassure the community about the proper functioning of our abatement systems and the proper implementation of AES Chile’s operational plan for the management of critical episodes,” said Marcelo Morales, Assistant Manager of Operations and Maintenance of the Ventanas Complex.

It should be remembered that Unit 1 is no longer operational since 2020 according to the decarbonization plans committed by the company.
